ABOUT THE SAN ANTONIO AIDS FOUNDATION
The San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF) is the first community-based organization created in response to the epidemic of HIV/AIDS in San Antonio. SAAF envisions a community where people living with HIV will thrive free of stigma and discrimination and positive sexual health is a reality for all. Our mission is to reduce new HIV and other sexually transmitted infections by providing equitable access to education, prevention, and sexual healthcare and improving the health and quality of life of people living with HIV or AIDS. SAAF was founded in 1986 as a volunteer-run hospice by Robert Edwards, known as Papa Bear. In 1991, SAAF moved to its present facility on 818 E. Grayson Street, a former nursing home. SAAF provided residential nursing/hospice services for almost 30 years to thousands of individuals with HIV/AIDS.To learn more about the San Antonio AIDS Foundation, visit www.SanAntonioAIDS.org or call Khalen Garcia, Director of Communications and Development, at 225-4715, ext. 186.
ABOUT TASTE OF SCIENCE
Taste of science is a nationwide festival and event series created to feed your curiosity. “Most people have never met a scientist and they may be bombarded with conflicting information in the media” says national director Dr. Parmvir Bahia, “so we wanted to create a space for them to learn about science directly, by bringing researchers to their favorite spaces, whether that be a café, bar or local library”. taste of science events have been held in more than 20 cities across the US, including our very own San Antonio.taste of science San Antonio hopes to foster a science passion across all generations by bringing science professionals out of their laboratories and into San Antonian’s backyards! Janay Hawkins, one of the San Antonio city coordinators says “We want our community to feel as though science is accessible and that they don’t have to work in a lab to experience and learn what science has to offer. Science is for everyone!”Learn more about our upcoming events on our website: tasteofscience.org/san-antonio and follow us on social media with the handle @tasteofsciSA.
